Last week our 4th graders got visited by a scientist: Dr. Katerina E. Aifantis, Associate Professor and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Fellow at the University of Florida visited Plato Academy Clearwater last week to share with our students her passion for science, especially the world of nanotechnology.

During and after her impressive presentation our 4th graders learned about the applications nanotechnology has in the medical field, engineering and others.Examples included the scientific community’s focus on extending (beyond six months) the battery life of brain implants that successfully reverse the effects of Parkinson’s disease on patients, as well as locating cancerous tumors and treating them efficiently and successfully.

The excitement was clear and the inspiration on students’ faces was prevalent.
