Ms. Foster’s 2nd Grade students at Plato Academy Saint Petersburg, are currently learning about the human body in science. They have done multiple lessons on how different body parts work. Today they did a project in science during which they created carbon dioxide by mixing baking soda and vinegar. They filled a balloon with the baking soda, and once the acid and base mixed, it created the carbon dioxide gas which filled the balloon. The teacher tied this into their lessons on the human body. Carbon dioxide is the gas we breathe out as we exhale. Lungs expand as we exhale, just as the balloon expanded when filled with carbon dioxide.
