Plato Academy has implemented a five-day orientation program welcoming onboard the new teachers. The program that is run by the Chief of Schools, Amy Hayes, the Chief of Staff Development, Dawn Parker, the Chief of Academics Danielle Cicetti, the Schools’ Administrators and Plato’s veteran teachers is designed to prepare new educators for the challenges of modern classroom instruction. The comprehensive training schedule, running from July 21-25, addressed critical areas of teacher preparation through structured professional development sessions.
Mrs. Dawn Parker who also organized the week-long training session emphasized the importance of introducing the new members of Plato Academy to the school culture, helping them familiarize with the Greek language integration, and get an overview of the school’s educational approach. Early sessions focus on establishing professional expectations and introducing new teachers to mentorship programs that will support their continued growth.
Curriculum development forms a central component of the training. Teachers receive intensive instruction in lesson planning, standards-based instruction, and data-driven teaching methods. The program emphasizes practical applications, including workshops on interactive lesson planning and assessment strategies using iReady, Write Scores, STAR, and FAST evaluation tools.
Supporting diverse learners receives particular attention throughout the week. Sessions cover differentiated instruction techniques, ESE (Exceptional Student Education) protocols, and specialized support for English Language Learners. Teachers dive deeper into navigating 504 plans and developing inclusive classroom environments that accommodate varying learning needs.
The orientation addresses contemporary educational challenges through dedicated sessions on technology integration, trauma-informed teaching practices, and behavioral intervention strategies. Professional learning communities and collaboration frameworks are emphasized to foster ongoing peer support among faculty members.
The program concludes with practical classroom management techniques, parent engagement strategies, and reflection exercises designed to help teachers synthesize their learning.
This comprehensive approach demonstrates Plato Academy’s commitment to educational excellence through thorough teacher preparation and ongoing professional support that will continue throughout the school year!
