Tolerance means accepting and respecting people who are different from us. It looks like including others in games and groups, being patient when someone has a different opinion, and celebrating what makes each person unique. It sounds like kind words, listening without interrupting, and saying things such as: “That’s okay, we don’t all have to agree.” “I like how you do it differently.” “You can play with us.” When we show tolerance, our classrooms and school become places where everyone feels welcome, safe, and valued.

    Art

    Dear Families,

October is off to an exciting start with printmaking projects in full swing for most grades!

Kindergarten is exploring stamping to make abstract art!

1st and 2nd graders are designing prints inspired by Disney’s It’s A Small World.

3rd graders are inventing their own imaginative creatures.

4th & 5th grade students have finished their self-portraits and are learning about the principle of design radial balance through mandala making.

6th graders are now integrated into the art schedule for the remainder of the 1st semester and have been collaboratively creating their own sketchbooks!

8th graders explored a Science & Art unit, and are experimenting with multiple styles and processes of printmaking!

Thank you to everyone who donated baby wipes and art supplies through my wishlist. Your support is much appreciated! The support, encouragement, and kind words I receive from students and families day in and day out help make our art room such a positive space for students to create!

    In partnership,

    Ms. Fidler

    Music

In Music, we have been joyfully preparing for our Christmas Concert! This year’s theme is “Christmas at the Movies”, where each grade will sing songs from classic holiday films. Students have continued working on vocal foundations and are now beginning to learn the musical pieces chosen for their grade level.

Through this project, we are focusing on important music standards such as:

    • Singing alone and with others a varied repertoire of music
    • Learning and performing folk music that helps us remember and honor America’s cultural heritage
    • Singing or playing songs from memory, even when verses change or repeat

Looking ahead, we will share information about attire at the beginning of November. Don’t worry ,  costumes will be simple and connected to the joy of traditional holiday celebrations.

We are so excited to see our students’ progress and can’t wait to share their hard work with you during the concert!
