Greek Independence Day Celebration 2025
TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – Plato Academy of Tarpon Springs turned a day of historical remembrance into a lively showcase of student talent on March 14, 2025 highlighting the Greek Revolution’s anniversary (celebrated in Greece on March 25, 2025) with performances that connected young learners to their cultural roots.
The school’s event packed in performances from every grade level, through music, theater, and song. Kindergarteners sang traditional songs, while fifth and sixth graders performed a play about the Trojan War. Seventh graders performed “Grease,” and eighth graders presented selections from the famous movie “Mamma Mia.”
Program narrators Agatha Lempidakis and Teia Dumont opened the event by explaining the significance of March 25, 1821 – the day Greeks began their revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
Nikolaos Stathopoulos and Kirill Demeshkin carried the Greek and American flags followed by the Fourth-grade students who took center stage, leading the American and Greek national anthems. As the familiar melodies rang out, students throughout the auditorium spontaneously joined in, their voices rising together – a reflection of the daily ritual of anthem singing in the beginning of the school day that has become a cornerstone of school life at Plato Academy.
The performances were a way for students to share Greek culture with the community.
Parents watched proudly as their children sang, acted, and celebrated Greek heritage. Plato Academy has long been known for its commitment to cultural education. This year’s celebration proved once again that learning goes far beyond textbooks.
