LARGO, FL— On Tuesday, February 4, the second-grade students of Plato Academy Largo embarked on an enriching field trip to the historic Tampa Theatre to watch a live performance of Aesop’s Fables. Organized by Greek teachers Mr. Kyriakos Bachtalias and Mrs. Chrisa Kapnogiannis, the visit offered students an opportunity to see classic tales come to life on stage.
The production featured well-known characters such as the hare and the turtle, the grasshoppers and the ants, and the lion and the mouse—stories that have conveyed essential life lessons for nearly three thousand years. Through this performance, students engaged with themes of teamwork, friendship, sharing, kindness, and perseverance in a dynamic and memorable way.
Beyond the theater experience, students extended their learning back in the classroom. They created a booklet of Aesop’s fables, crafted paper puppets of the characters, and even performed their own rendition of “The Lion and the Mouse.” These activities reinforced the moral lessons introduced on stage and encouraged students to reflect on the timeless wisdom of Aesop’s stories.
A special thank you goes to Miss Sleigh and Mrs. Cott, the second-grade teachers, for their invaluable support in making this field trip a success. Their assistance ensured a seamless and educational experience for the students.
