From Kindergarten to High School

Plato Academy Clearwater Celebrates the Class of 2026.

Clearwater FL- The eighth grade class of Plato Academy Clearwater walked across the stage ready to close one chapter and open the next. Parents, teachers, and younger students who just a few minutes before celebrated the graduating class with a clap out, filled the gym, and the ceremony delivered beyond diplomas and cords, a proof of what a school community can actually look like when it’s built the right way.

More Than a School. A Second Home.
Principal Mrs. Sutera captured it cleanly in her welcome address. “For many of you,” she told the graduates, “Plato Academy has been your second home for nine years.” Students who have walked the same halls since Kindergarten, who have had the same teachers across multiple grade levels, and who have grown up knowing every face at the front gate, tend to carry that foundation with them. Graduate Parker J., who described spending her elementary school years at Plato, said the school gave her “everlasting friendships, core memories, and a community that helped shape who I am.” Those are not small things.

Plato Academy School’s Focus on Character Education.
One of the more distinctive features of Plato Academy is its house system, shared across all eight Plato Academy schools. Students are placed into one of four houses, each named in Greek and representing a set of character values, such as excellence, leadership, respect, and wisdom. Each year, teachers nominate eighth grade students to serve as house leaders, recognizing not just academic achievement but the kind of character that younger students can look up to. The four house leaders of the Class of 2026 were recognized at the ceremony before the graduating class received their diplomas.

What Kinds of Academic Opportunities Does Plato Academy Offer Middle School Students? This year’s awards told the story clearly. Five students earned the Principal’s List by maintaining all A’s across all three years of middle school. Subject area awards were given across English, science, social studies, and multiple levels of mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. Students also had access to dual-enrollment coursework, with one graduate recognized for work completed in a high school-level English class, and another honored for completing Digital Information Technology, a high school credit course, while still in eighth grade. A World Cultures elective was added to the curriculum this year as well.

Athletics and Character on the Same Field.
The Class of 2026 included student athletes across volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, track, and coed hockey. A sportsmanship award was presented to two students chosen by the coaches, a recognition that stood apart from the typical MVP trophy. Graduate Alexis Curtis, one of the student speakers, spoke about what sports gave her beyond the scoreboard. “Being part of the team taught me teamwork, dedication, and how important it is to encourage one another,” she said. “Those moments turned our team into a family.”

What Do Students Remember Most About Plato Academy?
The student speeches, honest and specific, answered this question. Graduate Eliana thanked individual teachers by name, across sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, tracing a thread of consistency that ran through her entire middle school experience. Graduate Reo, a student since pre-K, spoke about the structure and growth she found at Plato, and offered frank advice to incoming eighth graders: build good habits early, stay organized, and know who you are without needing outside approval. Graduate Rhea was equally candid, telling her class and their parents that it is okay to fall short on some goals, and that hard work and identity matter more than a perfect record.

Graduate Finley closed the ceremony with a tribute to a kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Beck, who had stayed in her life through all of middle school, checking in after her father passed, greeting her at the front gate with a smile on the hard days. “After all the ups and downs, she still greets me with a smile,” Finley said. That kind of relationship between a school and a student is the result of a culture that is deliberately built, year after year.

What Makes Plato Academy Different from Other Charter Schools?
Plato Academy Schools is a network of eight Florida charter schools rooted in academic rigor, classical education, and strong character development. The house system, multi-year teacher relationships, dual-enrollment options in middle school, and a school culture where students genuinely know and support each other are not features you find at every school. The Class of 2026 at Clearwater is a good example of what that culture produces: students who are academically prepared, emotionally grounded, and ready to walk into high school with confidence.
