A Decade of Tradition
For the sixth-grade students of Plato Academy Largo, Thursday, April 10th marked a day of adventure and cultural enrichment. Accompanied by their Greek teachers, Yanni Giavaras and Kyriako Bachtalias, the students embarked on a field trip to Tarpon Springs—a tradition that has been celebrated for over a decade.
The trip began with a Dolphin Cruise along the Anclote River, where students marveled at dolphins gracefully swimming alongside their boat. Their journey continued to the serene Anclote Island, a natural haven where they collected shells and admired the untouched beauty of the landscape.
Returning to Tarpon Springs, the group indulged in authentic Greek cuisine at a local Restaurant, savoring dishes that highlighted the rich culinary heritage of Greece. The experience offered students a taste of Mediterranean flavors and an opportunity to connect with the cultural roots that form an integral part of Plato Academy’s educational philosophy.
This memorable outing was made possible with the support of PTO President Mrs. Courtney Dembek and Mrs. Katerina Williamson, who volunteered as chaperones alongside the teachers. Their dedication ensured that the day unfolded seamlessly and provided students with a safe and enjoyable experience.
Plato Academy Largo continues to uphold its commitment to blending academic learning with real-world exploration, fostering curiosity and cultural appreciation among its students. As this cherished tradition enters its second decade, it remains a highlight of the sixth-grade curriculum—and of the school’s dedication to holistic education.
