At Plato Academy, we are committed to providing our educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to foster a thriving learning environment. The recent training sessions held on August 2 and 5, 2024, emphasize our dedication to continuous professional development and educational excellence. These sessions covered a wide array of topics essential for both new and seasoned educators, focusing on best practices, innovative teaching strategies, and critical skills needed to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Among the key areas of focus were curriculum implementation, classroom management, and the integration of state standards. Educators participated in workshops designed to deepen their understanding of the HMH ELA and Math programs, exploring strategies to effectively differentiate instruction for diverse learners. The importance of small group instruction was emphasized, providing teachers with actionable techniques to enhance student engagement and academic growth.
The sessions also highlighted the significance of building a positive classroom culture. Teachers were equipped with strategies to foster inclusivity and create supportive learning environments where every student feels valued. In addition, sessions on conflict resolution and communication underscored the importance of maintaining constructive relationships with both students and parents.
Further enhancing the professional development experience, workshops on self-care and social-emotional learning (SEL) were included, recognizing the critical role these elements play in both educator and student well-being. The focus on self-care reflects our commitment to supporting our educators’ mental and emotional health, ensuring they are well-prepared to nurture their students’ growth.
By investing in these comprehensive training sessions, Plato Academy Schools continue to empower our educators, ensuring they are equipped to inspire and lead their students to success.
Plato Academy educators also attended an insightful session led by Dr. Konstantinos Vlahos (PhD in Educational Technology – University of Thessaly, Dept. of Language and Intercultural Studies), focusing on strategies to improve teaching Greek as a foreign language. The course covered practical ways to make language learning more engaging, from using interactive activities and visual aids to integrating technology in the classroom. Dr. Vlahos also highlighted the importance of creating a supportive learning environment, connecting lessons to real-life situations, and incorporating techniques like music, movement, storytelling, and spaced repetition to reinforce learning. The session provided educators with valuable tools to make language learning both effective and enjoyable for their students.
Mrs. Dawn Parker, Chief of Professional Development welcomed the new and veteran teachers:

Each one of us, makes Plato Academy a unique place to be!
As we embark on this new school year, we recognize that there will be challenges. However, by staying true to our school mission and supporting each other, we can overcome anything. It is through our collective efforts, our shared commitment, and our unwavering belief in the power of education that we will achieve our goals.
We are particularly excited about the implementation of the Houses in all our schools and all the great things that are happening. The Houses foster a sense of community, belonging, and friendly competition, enriching the student experience and enhancing school spirit. If you have not yet been inducted into a house… you will be soon!
Let’s have some fun and recognize the friendly competition among our Houses! Each House brings its unique strengths, and we want to hear your enthusiasm! Let’s see which House can make the most noise and show the most spirit.
- House of Athena, make some noise!
- House of Sophrosyne, let’s hear you!
- House of Areti, show us your spirit!
- And last but certainly not least, House of Filotimo, let’s hear you loud and proud!
Together, we’ll make this school year unforgettable!
At Plato Academy, we draw inspiration from the rich and profound legacy of Greek culture. The wisdom of ancient Greece, with its emphasis on knowledge, virtue, and the pursuit of excellence, is embedded in our educational philosophy. Just as Plato envisioned a society where individuals are cultivated to their highest potential through education and character development, we strive to nurture the minds and spirits of our students. We are continuing to build on Mr. Christopoulos’ idea of a modern-day Academy, a place where ideas flourish, critical thinking is encouraged, and each student is empowered to reach their full potential. We celebrate the arts, sciences, and humanities, understanding that a well-rounded education is the foundation of a thoughtful and engaged society. In fostering an environment that honors these principles, we prepare our students to be leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also wise, compassionate, and ready to contribute to a better world.
Remember, a positive growth mindset is our guiding light. Together, we can achieve great things. Let’s embrace this mindset and approach every challenge with optimism, resilience, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our students are watching, and they will follow our lead. Like the great philosophers and scholars of ancient Greece, we are on a quest for wisdom and excellence. Let us inspire our students to dream big, think deeply, and act with integrity.
Today is about connecting, learning, and growing together. We listened to what you shared with us in last year’s survey and hope you enjoy the day, network with your peers, and take something valuable back to your schools. You can see what learning sessions are available on our website, agendas found on the tables and also a copy on the glass door.
Thank you – Ευχαριστώ! Let’s have a fantastic school year!
