From Classroom to Stadium

Students and Teachers get together for Olympic-style Celebration

As the sun illuminated the school’s open area, students entered proudly, each bearing a different country’s flag, embodying the essence of unity and diversity as part of a comprehensive social studies project.

Gathered together, they danced a famous Greek dance along with their Greek teacher Mr. Ioannis Giavaras, and then sang together the Greek song “Irene” by Yannis Markopoulos, delivering a message of peace in both language and sentiment. It’s worth highlighting that during the Olympic Games in ancient Greece, a ceasefire was observed, bringing all conflicts to a temporary halt.

Following this heartfelt performance, the ceremony continued with a reenactment led by girls dressed in ancient Greek attire, similar to the ceremonies held in Olympia – Greece in the marking of the beginning of each Olympiad.

Then the torch was ignited, symbolizing the spirit of competition and aspiration. In a display of athleticism and camaraderie, students participated with excitement in a torch relay, mirroring the rituals of Olympic athletes, passing the flame from hand to hand until it is delivered to the location where the Olympic Games will take place.
